Non-grain-oriented electrical steel have the contents of Si, respectively Si+2Al, between 0.1 and 3 %, which depend upon the desired magnetic properties. These alloying elements effect both the temperature range of the existing alpha-and gamma-phases, the deformation resistance, and the resulting deformation properties as a softening and hardening behaviour during rolling in the alpha-and gamma-region. Basic rolling technologies are presented based on existing equipment arrangements. Microstructure development is the main focus. For selected steel grades the effects of different rolling conditions at hot rolling on the magnetic properties after cold rolling and final annealing are presented.
