The TIB – German national library for science and technology, and simultaneously provides Leibniz Universität Hannover with information. TIB's collections comprise more than nine million media items in numerous subject areas.
In addition to enabling items to be borrowed and used on-site, TIB offers its users online access to a wide variety of catalogues, databases, specialised information in electronic form and document delivery services. The range of electronic services is being continually expanded.
Having a library card is the key to being able to use TIB locally. The library card combines several functions in a single card. After registering, you can apply for a library card and collect it from TIB.
Once you have found the specialist literature you require in the TIB Portal, there are several options open to you:
You can use
- specialist literature locally at all sites,
- you can borrow specialist literature or
- order media that are not directly available.
Freely accessible books and journals
Many media can simply be taken from the shelves. These can then be borrowed using the self-checkout terminal. If no such terminal is available or if you have any questions, our staff at the Circulation Desk will be happy to assist.
Media available electronically can simply be downloaded. In some cases, access may be fee-based.
Ordering from the closed stacks
If the media you require are stored in the closed stacks, you can order them via the TIB Portal and then collect them from the Circulation Desk at the respective site. This process will take around 90 minutes. Any items that you have reserved can also be collected from the Circulation Desk.
Several media, such as journals or conference proceedings, may only be used in the reading room.
Photocopy delivery service
TIB offers members of Leibniz Universität Hannover a photocopy delivery service for non-loanable material from the TIB sites. More
