Duration

1 April 2011 – 31 March 2014

By funding these projects, the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) supports the development of individual knowledge and technology transfer strategies of selected Leibniz institutes (section D) and Helmholtz Centres. The funding is embedded in the Federal Government’s High-Tech-Strategy 2020.

It was the aim of the project to develop and establish a technology transfer concept for innovative research results targeted to the specific requirements of the TIB. The objective of the project was also to establish a technology transfer structure at the TIB and thus optimize its knowledge and technology transfer processes. As a result of this initiative an increase of the number and quality of technology transfer projects is to be expected.

Description

A key element of the three-year project was the cooperation with the consultant engage AG (key technology ventures) which is specialized in commercialization of research results in close cooperation with research institutions. Using the complementary competences of both partners, TIB and engage AG, promising research results were identified and evaluated regarding their market potential. During this project several innovations or technology transfer ideas were selected and evaluated by performing market or product studies. In some cases this was followed up by a further collaboration with an external partner. The relevance of different technology transfer options (e.g. collaboration, licensing, sale, spin-off, marketing strategies) was evaluated for the TIB and the knowledge and technology transfer concept has been developed.
