TIB is FOSSGIS media partner

Recordings of the conference will be permanently archived in the AV-Portal and made freely available

The FOSSGIS conference – which will be hosted this year from 21 to 25 March 2017 in Passau – is the largest German-language conference for Free and Open Source Software for GIS (geographic information systems) and the topics of Open Data and OpenStreetMap. This year, the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – German National Library of Science and Technology will be a media partner at the FOSSGIS conference 2017, featuring its AV-Portal: after the close of the event, recordings of the conference will be permanently available in TIB’s AV-Portal and freely accessible to all those interested.

Around 600 video recordings – with a total running time of some 300 hours – of the FOSSGIS conferences held between 2011 and 2016 and of the FOSS4G conferences 2013, 2015 and 2016 are already archived permanently in the online portal and are freely available.

Incidentally: If you want to find out more about how digital maps came into being, read the blog post “Star Trek, Universität Hannover and the origins of computer cartography” on our TIB Blog. This post is about a 30-year-old video that has cult status among map enthusiasts, computer scientists and Star Trek fans.
