Leibniz AnsprechBAR on 5 November 2022: The TIB is participating – come and put your questions to us

Participate, discover, listen – and question: your questions to science

On Saturday, 5 November 2022, Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) will open its doors to citizens from 12:00 to 18:00. At the university as an open place of science, researchers on a wide range of topics are approachable.

The program is colorful and diverse. There are themed tours, guided tours, exhibitions, experiments, hands-on activities and much, much more.

The TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Technology and Natural Sciences is also involved in various formats.

Discovering treasures from the history of architecture and art

During the 45-minute guided tour: “Do you know the Blue Cabinet? Treasures on paper from four centuries“, interested visitors will gain an insight into the impressive Albrecht Haupt Collection of historical prints and hand drawings, which is kept in the TIB's stacks. It includes true treasures of architecture and art history, valuable and rare prints, unique architectural drawings and sketches by renowned artists from different eras. Since 2019, this collection has been opened up and studied in a DFG project and can be discovered today during our guided tours.

The number of participants is also limited to eight, registration at s.paulus@igt-arch.uni-hannover.de is required.

A journey through the world of open educational materials

Dive with us into the world of Open Educational Resources (OER for short) and discover added values and challenges. Using the web platforms twillo and AV-Portal, which were developed and are maintained at the TIB, we will present services and possibilities to find suitable content for your own (education) and leisure time, to reuse it in a legally compliant manner and to publish it yourself if required. The event combines lecture impulses with discussion and interactive elements.

The impulse lecture “How do I find and use digital content with confidence? A journey through the world of open educational materials“ will help with questions such as: How and where can I find materials for free? What should I look out for when using other people's materials? What is important when creating and publishing? Many questions and also uncertainties - here you will find answers and extensive exchange around images, texts, videos or other (digital) materials.

Dates: 5 November 2022 // Date 1: 14:15 to 15:00 // Date 2: 16:15 to 17:00

Scientific information free of charge and legal

What scientists:inside find out is often also exciting for people outside the university. The Internet makes it technically possible to make information available free of charge and freely accessible. Many researchers take advantage of this opportunity and publish their articles in "open access" journals and books. But some articles are still behind a paywall - and subscriptions or books can be expensive. In the interactive lecture “How can I get scientific information legally and free of charge?“ TIB staff members will give you tips on how you can legally get publications that are behind a paywall. You are invited to bring links or titles of articles you would like to read.

Dates: 5 November 2022 // Date 1: 15:15 to 15:45 // Date 2: 16-15 to 16.45

Location: TIB Science/Technology site, lecture room

Come by and learn about TIB's tasks and activities. We look forward to seeing you!
