Fraud in Accounts Payable: How to Prevent it
John Wiley & Sons, Inc. , Hoboken, NJ, USA; 2015

Some of the most egregious frauds in recent times gave rise to the Sarbanes‐Oxley act. While the frauds were far more comprehensive than simple payment deceit, they did impact accounts payable functioning in many organizations. This chapter introduces the Sarbanes‐Oxley act and discusses the impact of this act on accounts payable. The Sarbanes‐Oxley Act of 2002 is comprised of 66 sections; however, the chapter is devoted to the infamous Section 404, which focuses on internal controls. The enactment of this legislation was a direct result of numerous well‐publicized accounting scandals, or some would say frauds. The intent was not only to close the loopholes that made these transgressions possible, but also to hold management at the very highest levels responsible for what went on in their companies on their watch.
