On 25 May 2018, the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will take legal effect. It strengthens consumers' rights and binds businesses to stricter rules and obligations.
What does the reform bring with it and what does it not (yet) achieve? The Technik-Salon on 17 May 2018 at 19:00 in the Reading Room Patents and Standards of the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) will be devoted to these and other questions relating to the subject.
In the film "Democracy - Im Rausch der Daten" the legislative process at EU level is vividly documented. Following the film presentation, visitors will learn from Tina Krügel (Institute for Legal Informatics, Leibniz Universität Hannover) and Joerg Heidrich (specialist lawyer for IT law and data protection officer of Heise Medien GmbH, Hanover) what principles such as data economy, transparency and confidentiality mean for citizens, companies and institutions.
