The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – German National Library of Science and Technology welcomes and endorses the March for Science, which will be held on 22 April 2017. On this day, people around the world – including numerous academics – will take to the streets to send out a signal for the freedom of science. They will demonstrate for the non-negotiability of scientific findings as the basis of social discourse. The March for Science is directed against the attacks on the freedom of science that have occurred in various societies and states, including in the heart of the European Union.
The March for Science, initiated in the USA, will take place in numerous cities throughout Germany. For example, marches will be held in Berlin and Göttingen. The March for Science enjoys the support of institutions such as the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany, Leibniz Universität Hannover and TU9, the alliance of leading technical universities in Germany.
