By joining together to form such a "buyers club", member institutions can benefit from better conditions when licensing electronic resources and financing publication services. Compared to individual arrangements, the advantages of the consortial model include price reductions, extended rights for users and authors, and cost savings in regards to a library’s resources.

Learn about the Open Access strategy within TIB's consortial business
TIB's consortial offering covers more than 40 e-resource packages and benefits over 300 universities, research institutions and scientific libraries every year. As the consortial leader, TIB actively advocates for the member institutions in discussions with publishers and learned societies. We are in regular exchange with other consortia (within and outside of Germany) in order to promote the transfer of knowledge between negotiators and to pursue common strategic goals. Examples for such collaboration are the Netzwerk Lizenzen of the three specialised German National Libraries, the Forum 13+ working group, or – on an international level – the OA2020 initiative.
