News about the DEAL project

Free publishing in Springer Nature Open Access journals for members of Leibniz Universität Hannover

Since 1 August 2020, members of Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) have been able to publish free of charge in the Open Access journals of the international scientific publisher Springer Nature. The article processing charges (APCs), which authors were previously charged individually for Open Access publications, will no longer apply.

This is possible due to the national agreement which the DEAL project concluded with Springer Nature in January 2020. For years, DEAL has been negotiating on behalf of the Alliance of German Science Organisations with the major science publishers for nationwide licences and fair pricing models. The extensive Open Access regulations agreed in the contract between DEAL and Springer Nature have now been in force for the publisher's Open Access journals since August.

TIB covers costs of Open Access publications for authors of the LUH

Since 1 August 2020, LUH authors have thus benefited from extensive Open Access rights for almost the entire portfolio of the publisher, APCs do not apply to them. The TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology pays these costs of centrally. Anyone who contributes an article to a Springer Nature journal covered by the contract will publish it Open Access as standard – regardless of whether it is a subscription journal with "Open Choice" or a genuine Open Access journal.

No contract without (small) exceptions: You can see which journals are covered by the agreement and which are not on our information page. Please also see our information on the procedure there.

If you have any questions about the terms of the agreement or if problems occur during your submission, we look forward to your call at 0511 762-14568 or your email at oafondstibeu.
