Useful tips – from registration to courses and opening hours

New at the Leibniz Universität Hannover? The TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library is not only a place where you can borrow media, it is also a popular place to work in a focused and quiet environment. And a place to learn how to handle with information and do scientific work. Our sites at a quick overview:

Registration

The LeibnizCard of Leibniz Universität Hannover also serves as a library card. Registration is very simple: 

  1. Register online first.
  2. Then activate your LeibnizCard free of charge at one of the TIB sites.

Important: When you register at the TIB for the first time, you must present a valid identity card (alternatively: passport with registration certificate).

Workstations and opening hours

The TIB sites are open up to 102 hours a week – the TIB Conti-Campus is even open until 00:00 Monday to Friday. The TIB offers more than 1,800 reading desks at its five sites: There are group study rooms, individual workstations for quiet and concentrated learning, computer workstations and study cubicles that can be reserved for up to three months if you are preparing academic work. Due to the Corona Pandemic, unfortunately only a reduced number of workplaces are available at the moment.

Course offers: Workshops, guided tours, webinars

In addition to reading desks, the TIB offers around 350 training courses on a variety of topics every year. It provides information and support online, in consultation hours, workshops and guided tours. Our course calendar offers an overview of the different courses on topics such as searching for media, reference management with the Citavi and Zotero programmes or scientific writing. To coincide with the start of your studies, there are various free webinars on the local TIB offerings:

E-learning offers: learning at any time and from any place

Tutorials, videos and further information in the TIB's e-learning section provide short and precise answers to frequently asked questions about the TIB-Portal, the search for books and journals and much more. A real must when starting your studies: the tutorial "TIB for freshmen".

With TIBgefragt, the TIB offers a personal consultation on your individual topic. Our experts in the library will answer your questions in detail and free of charge in approximate 30-minute sessions. Make an uncomplicated appointment for a consultation. The offer includes information on searching for literature or citation methods, Open Access, research data management and digital preservation.

The TIB-Blog contains numerous articles with tips and tricks on library use, academic writing and much more. The TIB staff also show what alternative ways of accessing literature are available and how everyday learning and research can be done from the home.
