It has been more than five years since the TIB had a new “face” – a new corporate design. That was in January 2016, at the same time as the foundation TIB was founded. At that time, TIB also presented its new website at www.tib.eu.
A lot has happened since then – for example, TIB is focusing more and more on “Open Science” in its strategic positioning: in addition to the development and expansion of various research areas, the transformation processes towards Open Access in the area of publishing were very important. Many new services and offerings, such as the AV-Portal, the conference recording service ConRec, the Open Access publishing platform TIB Open Publishing and the OER portal twillo for Open Educational Resources (OER), free and open teaching and learning materials, have been established or further developed.
The technology, behaviour and expectations of users with regarded to a modern website have changed during this time, as has the corporate design of the TIB. We take all these aspects into account when revising our website. We are proceeding step by step and, where possible, implementing changes during ongoing operations. In addition to the “facelift” of our website, which has now been completed, we will gradually revise the structures and contents of our website. Our goal: We aim to better present our diverse tasks, services and activities for our various target groups. Of course, we will involve our users in the process, in the form of surveys and usability tests from 2022.
Which changes will there be?
Now, at the start of the winter semester 2021/22, we will go online with a new design. We will be expanding it in the coming months. The new design includes a more compact presentation of the header area of the website, including the main navigation and the search field. The names of the main sections have been adapted and more subpages can now be reached directly via the menu. In addition, each section in the menu now has own quicklinks. The search interface is no longer permanently integrated in the header of each sub-page, but can be accessed at any time via the search icon in the menu row. We have also redesigned the homepage and improved the mobile display.
Preview: Entry pages for target groups and topics
In the coming weeks and months, the various sections and sub-pages will be revised. Simplified language and flatter navigation structures should enable our users to find services more quickly. We also want to provide a compact overview and quick access to the TIB's services and topics via dedicated entry pages.
