Prof. (Univ. Simón Bolívar) Dr. Maria-Esther Vidal, head of the Research Group Scientific Data Management at the TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology, is the third most influential female researcher (honorable mention) in the field of Knowledge Engineering according to evaluations of academic data from the online platform AMiner. In the Top 100 list of the most cited scientists, she achieved a total of 36th position. The list honours the work of the researchers and their sustainable influence over the past ten years.
Maria-Esther Vidal’s research has focused on large-scale distributed heterogeneous data management. The outcomes of her work show the power of integrating disparate sources of knowledge to uncover patterns for the support of decision making. She has expanded the boundaries of data integration and applied knowledge graphs technologies in biomedicine, Industry 4.0, and scholarly. Using these technologies, conditions that can affect the effectiveness of treatment or survival time in life-threatening diseases such as lung cancer and dementia can be detected.
