TechLib

Libaries in/for Technical Sciences getting together

Who

TechLib is a group of three European Libraries working in/for Technical Sciences. These are:

  • DTU Libraty – Technical Information Center of Denmark
  • TIB ‒ Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology; German National Library of Science and
    Technology
  • TU Delft – Library for the largest University of Technology in The Netherlands

These three institutes have in common that they have a national task or role in the area of Technical Sciences.

What

The group meets at least once a year in one of the three institutes and exchanges the new developments and prospects in their libraries on varying topics. It is an informal meeting of senior management. One of the results of these discussions in the past has been the start of DataCite. All three libraries were part of the founding members of DataCite, a now leading global non-profit organisation that provides persistent identifiers (DOIs) for research data.

Why

In the past years – the first meeting took place in July 2005 –the libraries have mainly used their meetings to share (or test) ideas and to learn from each other. It is very useful to have this open atmosphere and to form a virtual network of strong library leaders.

TechLib meeting 2019 in Copenhagen

At the TechLib meeting on 16 and 17 September 2019 at the library of Denmark's Technical University in Copenhagen (DTU), representatives of the TechLib network came together. TechLib is a cooperation of the four technical libraries of TU Delft, ETH Zürich, DTU and TIB. The focus of this year's meeting was, among other things, the strategic, informal exchange on development in the area of Persistant Identifiers (PID), on Open Science and Open Access activities as well as on the successes in the DEAL negotiations.

The next TechLib meeting will take place in Hannover in 2020, where the thematic focus will be on the Open Research Knowledge Graph.
