TechLib is a group of four European Libraries working in/for Technical Sciences. These are:
- DTU Copenhagen – Technical Information Center of Denmark
- ETH Zurich – Swiss Centre for Technical and Natural Scientific Information
- Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) ‒ German National Library of Science and
Technology ‒ Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology
- TU Delft – Library for the largest University of Technology in The Netherlands
These four institutes have in common that they have a national task or role in the area of Technical Sciences.
The group meets at least once a year in one of the four institutes and exchanges the new developments and prospects in their libraries on varying topics. It is an informal meeting of senior management. One of the results of these discussions in the past has been the start of DataCite. All four libraries were part of the founding members of DataCite, a now leading global non-profit organisation that provides persistent identifiers (DOIs) for research data.
In the past years – the first meeting took place in July 2005 –the libraries have mainly used their meetings to share (or test) ideas and to learn from each other. It is very useful to have this open atmosphere and to form a virtual network of strong library leaders.
