This paper describes the method used to calculate the flow field and quantify mixing capabilities of an electromagnetically stirred molten metal bath. PHOENICS 2.1.3, a commercial computational fluid dynamics code, was used to solve the turbulent Navier Stokes' equations. The electromagnetic field resulting from a current of 1000 ARMS, at 50Hz in the coil, was predicted using Vector Fields PC Opera. The mathematical model constructed using these codes, employed a realistic 2D axisymmetric geometry. The electromagnetic and hydrodynamic equation sets are coupled through Ohms' law for a conducting fluid. This work shows that the effect of fluid motion on the electromagnetic forces is negligible and increases the magnitude of the forces by 1% at most. (1 page)
