In this study, the local damage mechanisms and strain fields near the crack tip as well as the crack growth behavior in an centrally-cracked sheet specimen was investigated. The specimen was made of a particulate composite material containing hard particles embedded in a rubbery matrix and it was subjected to a constant strain rate of 0.5/min at room temperature. The effects of the applied strain level on the local damage and fracture processes as well as the strain fields near the crack tip were investigated and the results are discussed.
