The report is a comprehensive examination of how microelectronics and telecommunications have affected women's work and their working environments. Drawing on historical changes in five areas--telephone operators, workers in printing and publishing, information and data processors, retail clerks, and nurses--it looks at what can be expected in the next decade. It analyzes current and possible future effects on the quantity and quality of women's employment. It discusses difficulties in projecting changes in levels of employment, and it offers perspectives on how workers can more easily adapt to the changing workplace. It also addresses job insecurity resulting from an influx of advanced electronic systems. A second volume is available.
