Theoretical relations for the analytical treatment of the aeroelastic stability of three-dimensional structures with circular cross-section at Reynolds numbers where a periodic Karman vortex excitation is existing are presented. Thereby the unsteady generalized air force terms are formulated by application of the aerodynamic strip theory using experimentally determined two-dimensional lift coefficients. Then the vibrational problem is treated as an aeroelastic resonance problem. In order to verify the applicability of the analytical procedure, experimental investigations were performed. (Author)
