To obtain some knowledge of the indirect, traffic-caused exposure of the population to hazardous substances in a typical medium-sized town with considerably dense traffic, the lead contents in the sheet dust were measured at 46 measuring points with different density of traffic. To check the efficiency of the lead-in-gasoline law of 5 Aug 71, the measurements were carried out both in 1971, before this laws getting valid and also in 1977, after the definite limitation of the lead contents in gasoline. The following results were obtained. In the city centre with its dense traffic, the average lead content stopped from 4,2 mg/g dust to 2,2 mg/g dust. In the outshists where the traffic is less heavy the lead concentration dropped from 1,9 mg/g dust to 1,2 mg/g dust. (ERA citation 08:042177)
