The antigenic characteristics of the Toronto A26/61 canine adenovirus (A26/61) and infectious canine hepatitis (ICH) virus were compared by use of hemagglutination-inhibition (HI), serum-virus neutralization (SN), and complement-fixation (CF) tests. The 7 canine adenoviruses studied comprised 2 distinct homogeneous antigenic groups typified by classical ICH virus and the A26/61 virus. Virus was recovered most frequently from tissues of the respiratory system and, to a lesser extent, from tissues of the digestive system from dogs given the C955L virus. Virus was infrequently isolated from kidneys, liver, or gallbladder. Pathologic changes were most remarkable in tissues of the respiratory system and consisted of a proliferative, interstitial pneumonia with necrotizing bronchitis and bronchiolitis. (Author)
