The traveler was responsible for initiating the setting up of test facilities at CERN for a group of ORNL staff members from the Instrumentation and Controls and Physics Divisions. Prototype electronics for the readout of 10,000 lead-glass detectors were tested at CERN, the site of the collaborative experiment WA98. Initial tests were carried out successfully in a newly commissioned laboratory near the experimental area. The traveler participated in the WA80/93/98 Collaboration Meeting, which was held at GSI, Darmstadt, Germany. An informal cost and schedule review of the lead-glass electronics project was carried out, and funding was secured from WA98 sources for the portion that is not covered by Department of Energy (DOE) resources.
