The report summarizes the results of an evaluation of the corrosion performance of various experimental claddings on 7075-T6 aluminum alloys, in certain natural environments for periods up to 24 months. Claddings tested were 1199, 5457, 7004, 7472, 7072, and 7039 aluminum alloys. The superiority of 1199 and 5457 alloy cladding from the corrosion standpoint in tropical, semitropical, and temperate climates was confirmed. Corrosion related blistering of the clad layer indicate some modification of composition of 1199 and 5457 alloys might be desirable for long-term corrosion performance. Alloys 7004 and 7472 also were found to be superior to 7072 cladding from the corrosion standpoint but not equal to 1199 or 5457 alloys. (Author)
