This issue explores the link between alcoholism and some common psychiatric disorders (such as anxiety, depressive, and eating disorders), with an emphasis on the importance of integrated treatment for cocurring disorders. Alcoholism and psychiatric disorders frequently coexist in patients, a condition known as dual diagnosis. This issue of the journal discusses some problems in diagnosing and treating alcoholics with dual diagnoses. In addition, the relationship between smoking and drinking is exmained an intervention strategies for alcoholics who smoke or use other drugs are outlined. The concluding article in this issue investigates selected dietary behaviors and beliefs associated with various levels of alcohol consumption in a national sample of men and women.
