The thesis describes algorithms to analyze digital side looking radar images. Thereby emphasis is put on the investigations of geometric characteristics of radar imagery taken over terrain with topographic variation. The methods developed in the thesis include simulation and geometric and radiometric rectification of digital radar imagery; thus tools were developed to guarantee the establishment of a relation between the information from maps (e.g. height and coordinate positions; thematic content) and radar images (image coordinates, grey value information). The applicability of the developed methods in geoscientific fields is proved and discussed in studies for radarstereoscopy, geology and meteorology.
