The report deals with a simple, idealized, radially finite electron beam model which to our knowledge has not been treated in the literature before. The beam is assumed to be composed of infinitesimal discs whose charge to mass ratio equals that of the electron. The diameter of the plane, rigid discs equals that of the real confined beam. The propagation of high frequency disturbances (generated in an ideal, gridded velocity modulation gap) along the disc-electron beam is studied analytically. It is shown that the disturbances, i.e. space charge waves, in the disc-electron beam are practically equivalent to those in the corresponding real confined beam. However, the theory for the new model is comparatively simple which is the motivation for its use. The report contains a fourth order nonlinear analysis of the space charge waves on a disc-electron beam propagating in a conducting tunnel. (Author)
