Discusses the Automatic Flight Control System, incorporated into the Boeing 757/767 aircraft. The most troublesome problem in the early development was the lack of an acceptable interface for the major systems. A solution was provided by Aeronautical Radio Inc. by the design of the ARINC Standard 429 and 453 communications bus. This network connects all the components of the Boeing Flight Management System. The entire Flight Management System is made up of four major subsystems, these include the Automatic Flight Control System, the Inertial Reference System, the Emergency Indication and Crew Alerting System, and the Electronic Flight Generation System. Each major subsystem, in turn, has its own microprocesor-controlled subsystems.
