Describes a method and results of cache memory simulation. The simulation is carried out to compare various mapping and storing methods in efficiency, and various data such as the effective cycle time, execution time, block life, etc., are obtained. The influence of program switching on the performance of the cache memory is also simulated and data are obtained concerning the switching period for mapping and storing methods. These simulation results are supposed to lead to a conclusion that the set associative is the most effective mapping method. The reason is that in the case of uniprogram, both sector mapping and set associative mapping are effective, while in the multiprogram case the performance of the sector mapping decreases more rapidly than the set associative as the switching period becomes short.
