In this paper, six-category concept is proposed for classifying textile business in terms of material/product character. The size of market, the field of end-use, the criteria of product's value, the driving factors of market growth, the pattern of global business development, the controllability of business and the acquisition source of technology for each category business can be featured according to this concept. Analyses on the present aspect and the future trend of textile industry in the world are tried based on this category concept. The growth tendency of will continue at least in the first quarter of 21 century with a population growth and the increase of textile usage per head in the developing countries. The structure of textile supply chain will be diversified. Supply chain for and will be more simply and globally operated by P-B sector based on the effective utilisation of IT. B-to-B system will be widely utilised in textile business. On the other hand, in the business of at least, mass customisation system for consumer will be developed. System utilising apparel CAD combined with wearing simulation will make an innovative change in the sale system of ready-made suits. But with economical growth in a developing country, the demand for products increases. In this situation, business tends to skip over technological barriers in the textile countries. Especially demands for technical textiles increase indispensably by economical growth. Therefore business of technical textile in these countries tends to more rapidly grow. But in the case of, its technical barrier is so high and its market is so limited that most of developing countries cannot enter into this kind of business. Textile industry in the world includes so many kinds of business and its structure is changing so rapidly in global scale that it is rather difficult for us to totally analyse several phenomena in the changes of textile industry in the world. In this paper, the six-category concept based on product character is presented as a co-ordination base for several types of textile business. By combine the concept with product stage/ function category, most of textile business can be clearly identified. This kind of co-ordination of textile business seems to be very helpful for the analyses of the textile industry and for policy making of individual textile business.
