Preliminary tests of 3 new water-borne concentrates of synthetic cutting fluids were performed. The polyglycols-based biodegradable cutting fluids showed good lubricating, antiwear and antiseizing properties. They could be also accepted from the environmental point of view. The concentrates were converted to the cutting fluids by a simple dilution with water to concentrations 2.5 % to 10 %. The lubricationg properties were studied using a 4-ball wear tester (LH15 steel) under a load 785 N to 1569 N and rotational speed 1450/min and, additionally, at machining carbon and low-alloyed steels with high-speed steel and sintered carbides turning tools. The highest lubricating power was observed when the 5-% cutting fluids were used.
