AJ52x offers a good combination of mechanical and physical properties up to a temperature of 175 deg C. The AJ52x bolt-load retention properties are superior to those of AE42, which are considered to be technically acceptable for power train applications. AJ52x shows higher thermal conductivity than any other die cast magnesium alloy. At 150 deg C, the percentage of retention of Young's Modulus is superior to that of the standard die cast magnesium and aluminum alloys. Percent clamping force retention in AJ52x is independent of initial load applied, so applying a high initial clamping load to the assembly can increase clamping forces for high temperature service. Under a torque retention test on a valve cover AJ51x showed better torque retention than did aluminum A380.
