A procedure to utilize the results of LCA to development of a next generation product and to R&D (research and development) of new technologies is presented. This procedure was applied to an ecodesign of residential buildings with focusing an outer wall and a window of a house. On introducing a goal that CO2 emission during the usage phase be decreased by 21 % from the current product, it was found that a window of a higher quality available at present would fulfill the goal. On the contrary, a house with an outer wall of a higher quality available at present was found below the goal, and the technological target for the goal on the outer wall ofR&D was identified. Available major measures to increase the performance for the boundary part to keep inside cool/warm are a heat insulation material with a higher quality than the current one, and a window with a higher quality. To calculate CO2 emission, a program to compute the loads of a heater and a cooler in a house, called SAMSH, was employed. A standard residence house was assumed for the study.
