A novel magneto-elastic force sensor with ring-shaped core made of amorphous alloy is described. Measuring and magnetizing windings are placed in grooves at the cylindrical backings. In this construction uniform distribution of compressive stress can be achieved in the magneto-elastic ring-shaped sensing elements. Due to this fact both higher sensitivity as well as wider measuring range can be achieved. Functional characteristics of developed sensors are also presented. The new kind of presented sensors has a wider measuring range and a higher sensitivity than sensors presented previously. Presented results indicated that (due to decreasing of internal stresses) process of thermal annealing of the magneto-elastic core causes increasing of sensitivity of the sensor as well as decreasing of standard deviation of its indications. Moreover after thermal annealing the magneto-elastic hysteresis of the sensor is lower than the standard deviation of its indications. This information should be taken into consideration by constructors of the ring-core based magneto-elastic sensors.
