One possibility for texturing piezoelectric ceramics is the Templated Grain Growth Process (TGG). Herein, the orientation of seed crystals in the matrix is transferred to the surrounding matrix of piezoelectric ceramic material. Since the piezoelectric coefficients are orientation-dependent, a performance increase by almost a factor of two can be achieved without changing the matrix material composition by doping. In this work, besides an already known PMN-PT-ceramic composition a PMN-PZT-composition (highly doped PZT) is investigated. For texturing both compositions, BaTiO3 seeds are used. In addition, the growth mechanism of the seeds as well as the impact of process parameters are investigated with the help of macroscopic single crystals.
