One of the field engineer's works is to identify the relations between the lube oil analyses results and the current lubricating conditions of the running surfaces of machinery. This paper presents some experiences of a field engineer who visited ships at dockyards. The coverage of this paper on the observations of replica films of lubricating parts are; 1. Diesel engine cylinder liner running surface. Example of good lubrication. 2. Diesel engine piston ring running surface I. Frequent piston ring breakage. Metal fatigue. 3. Diesel engine piston ring II. Comparison of corroded area by acid gas and non-corroded area. 4. Diesel engine main bearing. All cylinder liners and piston rings were renewed due to abrasive wear by FCC fines at 2 stroke engine. The system oil analysis still shows the presence of Aluminum and Silicone in the crankcase. FCC fines embedded in the running surfaces of bearing metal. 5. Bevel gear of bow thruster. Excessive Fe contents by ICP analysis. Metal fatigue. etc.
