Blast furnaces are relined every 15 to 20 years in general. Previously it took over 120 days for relining in case of large inner volume blast furnaces. Recently the demand for shortening blast furnace relining period is growling in terms of minimizing production losses during the relining period. At the same time, the needs for improving functions of blast furnace such as high productivities, stable operations, energy saving and reduction of CO2 emission are also bigger and bigger. Nippon Steel Engineering developed and established the Large-block relining construction method in 2000. Since then drastic shortening of blast furnace relining period has been achieved by Nippon Steel Engineering in many projects. Furthermore in the recent relining project of large inner volume blast furnace, the transport method of heavy hearth shell block was newly developed by Nippon Steel Engineering and achieved the relining period of total 68 days. On the occasion when blast furnaces are relined, for the purpose of upgrading the functions of blast furnaces, the latest equipment technologies for stable operation, energy saving and the reduction of CO2 emission have also been installed to blast furnaces. On this paper, together with the above new short relining technologies, we introduce features and advantages of Nippon Steel Engineering's new equipment technologies focusing on the dry type gas cleaning facility, cast house equipment and hot stoves, which impact on the energy saving and the reduction of CO2 emission at blast furnaces.
