Systems are influenced by and affect its environment. An online shop is such a system and will be influenced by trends, customer behaviors, and so on. However, it also sets trends, makes marketing and produces profit for the providing company. Up to now, it does not existing a holistic system model of an online shop. Therefore, it is difficult to take well-founded decisions and so called-shop managers decide complex questions according to instinct and experiences. The economic and technical estimation of shop manager decisions forms the research of the project SimProgno to provide a tool for shop managers which consolidates the decision making process scientifically. Therefore, the overall goal was the research of techniques for the integration of context-specific simulation solutions whose combination enables the answering of economic, interdisciplinary and technical questions in e-commerce domain. Different techniques of simulation and integration were considered as well as reference software architectures. Since there are many connections, they were visualized and analyzed with cause-and-effect chains to be translated into simulation models of System Dynamics and agent-based simulations. The resulting simulation solutions were so-called simulation modules which are provided by web services. Therefore, they can be combined to an overall simulation solution with rules of service orchestration. The simulation results can then answer complex questions in e-commerce with the use of an analysis engine. The project shows the possibility of answering complex questions in a special domain by simulation and the combination of small simulations. Most of the techniques can be adapted to another domain, e.g., reporting systems and natural environment.
