The resolution of Computerized Tompgraphic (CT) images is limited due to the bandlimited reconstruction process and the use of smoothing windows which eliminate high spatial frequencies from the image. A new method is presented which restores these missing spectral components and thus increases the resulting spatial resolution of the image. The new method based on the row action projection (RAP) algorithm is computationally efficient and facilitates local adaptation of the projection operators. The local mean value as well as minimum and maximum bounds are used as constraints. The method is proposed to provide a zoom-in capability which yields a high resolution estimate of a specified region of the image. The zoom-in feature could be of grat utility in medical and commercial applications of tomographic image reconstruction. Computer simulations demonstrate the new method to be very effective in recovering high order spetral components of designated regions of the reconstructed image.
