As most fundamental signal processing, is required to extract the form of frequency spectra from speech signals and periodical information of speech-path-driven acoustic source signals correctly in order to materialize low bit-rate speech coding. In order to extract high accuracy speech characteristics, the existing methods such as frequency analysis by using the band filter bank or pitch extraction by nonlinear analog processing of waveforms have been replaced by techniques of digital signal processing such as the method of analysis-by-synthesis based on the acoustic theory of speech generation by a MIT group (K.N. Stevens), which was applied to formant analysis of speech. Linear predictive coding and its applied methods of PARCOR analysis, linear spectrum analysis and composite sine analysis have become basic techniques of digital processing of speech.
