In high-speed liquid molding, the fluid injection process occurs very rapidly and often varies from part to part due to imperfect preform fit in the mold. Resin reactivity is expected to vary on a batch to batch basis due to changes or errors in formulation, mixing and catalyst activity. This reactivity can be controlled if the errors are detected and a control action is available to compensate for such disturbances. The optical fiber sensor system can be employed to detect variations in resin reactivity with a precision that allows rational and stable control activities to be planned. Control actions can be planned using a model of the resin cure kinetics which can also be used for predictive purposed when expressed in differential or difference form.
