Straightforward route to trans-A2B-corroles bearing substituents with basic nitrogen atoms - A comprehensive methodology that affords regioisomerically pure trans-A2B-corroles bearing substituents with basic nitrogen atoms at meso positions has been developed. The corrole formation reaction involves the acid-catalyzed condensation of a dipyrromethane and an aldehyde followed by oxidation with DDQ. Pyridine, quinoline and quinoxaline containing substituents as well as other aromatic substituents with tertiary amine groups in different positions, were successfully introduced.Gryko, Daniel T. et al. | 2002

MICROREVIEW - Mechanisms of porphyrinoid localization in tumors - An overview of the mechanisms for preferential porphyrinoid localization in malignant tumors is presented. Several uptake pathways are possible for each photosensitizer, which are determined by its structure, mode of delivery and tumor type. Comparisons of the different mechanisms and correlations with the structure of the sensitizer are discussed. Current delivery systems for porphyrin sensitizers are described, as well as recent strategies for enhancing their tumor-specificity, including conjugation to a carrier system that selectively targets a tumor-associated receptor or antigen.Osterloh, Jens et al. | 2002

Alkyl-substituted magnesium phthalocyanine: Phototoxicity after excitation of higher electronic states in cells in vitro - Uptake, localization and phototoxicity of (t-butyl)4-PcMg, was investigated in Jurkat cells in vitro. Two-step photoexcitation of higher singlet states of (t-butyl)4-PcMg incubated in cells at photon flux densities of about 1026 phot.cm-2.s-1 leads to a transient cell cycle arrest without long-lasting phototoxicity. Irradiation of (t-butyl)4-PcMg in cells is accompanied by a rapid destruction of the dye, as was proved by confocal fluorescence spectroscopy. For the discussion of results a radical mechanism is proposed.Paul, Andrea et al. | 2002

The influence of heat-pretreatment on the gas-sensing properties of novel zinc phthalocyanine LB films - A novel asymmetrically substituted amphiphilic phthalocyanine, 1,4-di(2-hydroxyethoxyl)-8,9,16,17,23,24 -hexapentyloxylphthalocyaninozinc (asy-PcZn), was synthesized. It can be deposited as well-ordered LB films. Significant structural changes of the film were observed by UV-vis absorption spectra and low-angle X-ray diffraction after the films were annealed at 150 (degree)C. What is more interesting is that the initial conductance of the films in air decreases and the response signal to NH3 is weaker with longer response time after annealing compared with that of the unpretreated films.Ding, Ximing et al. | 2002

Fabrication of Langmuir-Blodgett films of metallophthalocyanines by flow-orientation and dilution methods - This paper reports on novel fabrication techniques for well-ordered Langmuir (L) and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of metallo tetra-tert-butyl phthalocyanines (MTBPcs) containing various transition metal ions, i.e. Co2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and VO2+. An extreme dilute concentration of a developing solution and the flow-orientation methods enable the fabrication of well-ordered L-monolayers of MTBPcs at the air-water interface. For the LB films, an annealing procedure dramatically improves the ordering of MTBPcs.Matsuura, Toshihiko et al. | 2002

An improved chiroporphyrin shift reagent for the enantiomeric assay of amino acid derivatives by 1H NMR spectroscopy: Evaluation of iodorhodium(III) tetramethylchiroporphyrin - 1H NMR spectroscopic studies of amino ester complexation indicate that iodorhodium(III) tetramethylchiroporphyrin RhI(TMCP) has a single axial site available for the coordination of amine groups, and that it retains its iodo ligand trans to the coordinated amine. This stoichiometry of amine binding makes RhI(TMCP) a superior chiral derivatizing agent relative to CoC1(TMCP), which gives bis-adducts. It may have a strong impact in the enantiomeric assay of amino acid mixtures by 1H NMR spectroscopy.Claeys-Bruno, Magalie et al. | 2002

The effects of bulky ortho-aryl substituents in corroles, tested by X-ray crystallography of the rhodium complexes and catalysis thereby - The first utilization of a metallocorrole with bulky ortho-aryl substituents, Rh(tdcc)(PPh3), reveals that it is actually a less efficient cyclopropanation catalyst than the more accessible Rh(tpfc)(PPh3). A comparison between the molecular structures of the complexes in their hexa-coordinated states, which are more relevant to conceivable reaction intermediates, suggests that excess steric crowding prevents efficient carbene-transfer catalysis.Simkhovich, Liliya et al. | 2002

Cobalt(II)-phthalocyanine encapsulated in NaY faujasite: Aggregation of Co(II)-phthalocyanine encapsulated in NaY zeolite due to the acidity of Ti(IV) oxide species mediated by pyridine - Co(II)-phthalocyanine (CoPc) was synthesized in the cages of a NaY faujasite matrix and in NaY with co-encapsulated highly dispersed Ti(IV) oxide species. Reversible aggregation of the CoPc molecules was found, which was mediated by co-guests, like Ti(IV) oxide species or pyridine.Prochnow, Peter et al. | 2002

Synthesis, characterization and catalytic behavior of iron porphyrins immobilized in layered double hydroxides - We report the synthesis, characterization and catalytic behavior of iron(III) porphyrins immobilized in layered double hydroxides (LDH). A combination of EPR, UV-visible spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) was used to characterize the products. After characterization, the isolated powders were investigated in the oxidation reaction of cyclohexane by iodosylbenzene and hydrogen peroxide in heterogeneous catalysis in comparison to homogeneous media. Some of these immobilized compounds were very good catalysts for this oxidation, reaction stimulating the future investigation of other substrates.Halma, Matilte et al. | 2002
