The country that produces the most textiles at the lowest prices is china. Exports of textile and garments from China constitute about 50 % of the Asian giant's total output. The textile industry in India employs roughly 35 million people, making it second largest employer in the country after agriculture. Bangladesh earns three-fourth of its foreign exchange from textile exports. Its textile industry directly employs 1.8 million people, and indirectly provides work for about 5 million. Pakistan has emerged as one of the major cotton textile product suppliers in the world market. Despite efforts to bring in diversification in the country's overall economic get-up, the textile sector continues to be the most important segment of the national economy. Vietnam has become a leading exporter of textiles and apparel in the world. The industry's export value increased from USD 1 billion in 1996 to nearly USD 5 billion in 2005. The textile industry is driving Cambodia's export earnings and is the most important component of the Cambodian economy. Cambodia has been trying to put a labour-friendly face on its crucial garment industry. The Sri Lanka textile and apparel industry has grown much over the years to become the primary export earner and the largest single employer of its manufacturing industry, providing work to 1/3 of its total manpower. The Indonesian textile industry is integrated vertically through almost every phase of production. The Indonesian industry has traditionally held a competitive advantage in terms of labour, and fuel cost. Textile production capacity in the country is running at a high-capacity utilisation rate in recent years due in large parts to its success in filling a highly competitive niche in the world market. The textile and apparel industry is in the Philippines the second biggest foreign exchange earner. It has contributed an average of 7 % to the country's total export earnings for the past three years. In 2000, investors from China and Taiwan built textile factories in Kenya so they could escape quotas against Asian textile manufacturers. When quotas disappeared the factories closed down. Kenya is losing two thousand jobs a month before this, and export have come to a grinding halt. Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia, all of whom developed their textile industry in a time of import quotas and easy access to large markets, are in the same dramatic situation.
