An optoelectronic gas analysis system which utilizes lead chalcogenide diode lasers as a tunable monochromatic radiation source for ultrafine spectroscopy was developed. A method for the measurement of gas concentrations, using pulsed diode lasers, is explained. The transmissivity of a gas sample is measured with high resolution in the region of a specific absorption line. From the integral of the extinction, a quantity is obtained which is proportional to the concentration of molecules. A laboratory setup was built based on this principle of integrative spectroscopy. Special laser spectrometer modules were designed, including microcomputer control and signal processing units. Trial measurements were performed with satisfactory results.
