The report establishes nutrient requirements of goats from original studies directly concerned with the needs of goats. Past efforts relied heavily on extrapolation of values derived from cattle and sheep studies. The discussion of energy and protein requirements contains much new information from extensive research at the Raja Balwant Singh College at Bichpuri (Agra), India. The material on mineral, vitamin, and water requirements and on nutrition-related metabolic disorders relied mostly on reviewing past work. The discussion on herbage and browse utilization includes new work from Texas. Treatment of ration formulation and examples of typical rations and tables of nutrient requirements are described in the report. Because of the unique nature of goats, the nutrient requirement tables also include allowances for activities during grazing.
