The state-of-the-art is in such a turmoil that it is impossible, at this time, to predict the ultimate form it will assume. No one concept should be generally accepted at this time - at least by the military. In the interest of industrial preparedness, all concepts should be carefully followed and understood by responsible military representatives. Great strides are being taken forward and more are inevitable as scientists learn more about physics of the solid state. For purposes of discussion and reference in this report, microelectronics concepts have been arbitrarily classified as follows: (1) Packaging; (2) Integrated Circuit (ceramic substrate); (3) Integrated Circuit (semiconductor substrate); and (4) Functional Blocks. The microcard concept is a reality now and is gaining acceptance. A list of microcomponent suppliers appears in Appendix A. There is considerable optimism about the others. (Author)
