The simplified waste model (SIMWMM) is a simulation of the full waste model (WMEM). The WMEM was designed to both technically and economically model commercial reprocessing waste handling as waste through ultimate disposal at a repository or burial ground. SIMWMM uses a quadratic equation to approximate results obtained from runs of the full model. Numerous runs were made using the full model's variables set at a low point, midpoint, and a high point over a specified range. Using math modeling techniques, the dominant variables were selected and further runs were made using only the dominant variables to determine the response surface characteristics. Net Present Costs obtained were then used to generate the coefficients of the quadratic equations in SIMWMM. Coefficients used in each quadratic are only valid over the range which was selected for the WMEM screening studies. (ERA citation 09:011598)
