Various modifications, the chief of which are D.C. coupling from the detector with a series signal limiter, use of negative intensity modulation on the H.R. tube and use of a long afterglow screen have been used on C.H.L. receivers as an anti-jam measure. The performance of the modified circuits was compared with that of the normal Mark V G.C.I./C.H.L. receiver. It was found that the modifications render the system non-linear and it therefore cannot be used for height-finding. The frequency response of the signal frequency amplifier chain is made slightly worse. With C.W. interference the normal receiver is better than the modified owing to the strong limiting action of the series limiter. With railing interference the modifications constitute a definite improvement for C.H.L. working.
