The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT) was held at the Adelaide Convention Center in Adelaide, South Australia from the 4th to the 9th of September 2005. Since 1950 the Symposium has been the premier annual technical event of the IEEE Information Theory Society. The Symposium attracted 634 delegates from 30 countries. The Symposium introduced for the first time a five page technical paper distributed on compact disk, and a video recording of the Shannon Lecture, freely available online. The Symposium Proceedings contain 506 technical papers in the following topics: coded modulation, coding theory and practice, communication complexity, communication systems, cryptology and data security, data compression, data networks, detection and estimation, information theory and statistics, multiuser detection, multiuser information theory, pattern recognition and learning, quantum information processing, Shannon theory, signal processing, and source coding.
