A simple and rapid method was investigated for the determination of the trace amount of water in organic solvent containing active chlorine and hydrogen chloride by gas chromatography. It was found that atmospheric moisture markedly interfered with the determination of water in the above solvent on the usual gas chromatographic injection procedure. Therefore, an attachment for injection, that is, a kind of drying apparatus, was made to overcome this trouble. By this injection-attachment, the determination of trace amount of water was successfully achieved without influence of atmospheric moisture. The calibration curve shows good linearity passing through the origin, and the analytical values obtained agree closely with those of the modified Karl Fischer method. The relative standard deviation is less than 10 percent. The lower limit of the determination is 2 ppm, and one analysis requires approximately 20 min.
