The number of pipe supports used in modern power stations has increased significantly in recent years particularly in the larger nuclear plants. Typically, conventional plants will have 5000 individually designed supports, while nuclear plants will have as many as 20000 supports and restraints. To meet this demand, a computer graphics program has been developed to aid the design engineer in both the pipe support design and production of the final pipe support assembly drawing. The time required to produce the final computer drawing is greatly reduced over conventional methods of drafting and so-called predrawns. In addition, the drawing quality produced by the graphics program cannot be matched by even the most sophisticated drafting techniques. (Wassmann)
