Modern extrusion plants generally grant acceptable working conditions for operators from the noise pollution point of view. Anyway, even if expensive and sometimes penalising for the production, noise abatement and isolation interventions on the different sources of noise do not always lead to the advantages expected in terms of a sensible reduction of the total level of noise in the working areas and with respect to the external environment, which must not be polluted. To this end, the international regulations concerning man protection against noise injures in the industrial environment and external environment protection against noise plants have been taken into consideration. EstrusAfon is a new method and applicative software that has been developed to analyse, process, and simulate the final effects of the extrusion plants noise behaviour. In fact, by putting into connection machineries noise's sources, workplaces, and acoustic characteristics of building and external environment, this method allows quantifying and planning - and thus optimising - the final outcome of each localised and general noise intervention in the earliest planning and project stages. It is extremely important to start considering the problem of noise right from the plant project phase, as the costs for the carrying out will be negligible if compared with the costs to be born to realise an acoustic decontamination on an existing plant. In fact, such decontamination would be difficult to realise, while the relevant costs would be very high and the outcome may not come up to the expectations. The extrusion plant projecting method is herein described, together with all the best sound protections for the personnel, and without any noise emission polluting the external environment.
